FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How to remove Airbag module from the car:
Failure to follow instructions below may result in the accidental deployment of “air bag”, “seat belt”, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag or seat belt.
Never disassemble or tamper with safety belt buckle/retractor pretensioners, adaptive load limiting retractors, safety belt inflators, or probe the electrical connectors.
Do not use electrical test equipment to check SRS circuits unless instructed to in this Service Manual.
Before servicing the SRS, turn ignition switch OFF, disconnect both battery cables and wait at least 3 minutes. For approximately 3 minutes after the cables are removed, it is still possible for the air bag and seat belt pre-tensioner to deploy.
Therefore, do not work on any SRS connectors or wires until at least 3 minutes have passed.
To remove your airbag control module, follow these steps:
1.Find the SRS module.
In most cars it is under the center console that is between the two front seats, or center of the dash on the floor. In most GM cars it is under the driver or passenger seat.
2. Disconnect the positive battery cable and wait for 3-5 minutes.
3. You are now safe to unplug the airbag control module harness wiring plugs.
To install your airbag control module:
1. All SRS components must be installed and connected properly before installing the airbag control module (this includes air bags, seat belts, clock spring and impact sensors)
2. Disconnect the battery.
3. Wait 3-5 minutes before installing the airbag module in the vehicle.
4. Bolt down module with all bolts and then connect harness plugs. (if not then, your roof airbags and seat belts could deploy)
Vehicle needs to be flat on the ground. Not elevated on a jack or lift (if not then, your roof airbags and seat belts could deploy)
5. Reconnect battery cables.

2. What if it doesn't work after?
We go through the process of testing our repaired parts a couple times before we send it to you to make sure you receive
a fully functional part back.
That's why all of the parts repaired come with a 1 year warranty and guidance on installing and identifying other issues with
SRS components after accident.
3. "My seat belt works but scanner is throwing DTC's".
Blown seat belts do not have to be locked and sometimes show no symptoms of be faulty.
But the airbag light and code will indicate that the seat belt is not working and will need to be repaired because each seat belt is equipped with a gas-charge that if blown, will not work again. The other common issue is broken connector or weak connection, if you have replaced or repaired your seat belts, make sure to check connectors and signals next.
4. How to identify a stage of the seat belt?
The stage of the seat belt is identified by the number of gas-charges it is equipped with.
Each charge will have its own connector. Take a look at your seat belt and identify the number of connectors it has.
A single-stage seat belt has 1 plug, dual-stage seat belt has 2 plugs from which one is on the retractor and second one on anchor pretensioner or both on the retractor, while triple-stage seat belt will have 3 total charges from which two will be on the retractor and one on anchor pretensioner. If you are still not really sure which stage seat belt you have, please take a picture and send it to this email: info@myseatbeltguy.com and we will help you with that.
